Plumbing Tips That Can Save Atlanta Residents Lots of Money

Detecting water leaks early can end up saving you a lot of money and frustration. Unfortunately, water intrusions don’t fix themselves, they just get worse with time, causing more damage and wasting water.

You may think, it’s just a small leak, how much damage can it do?

“The average household’s leaks can account for more than 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year and ten percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more per day,” the Environmental Protection Agency.

With the cost of water going up every year, it seems we are paying more and more for water. But an increase in your water bill can also indicate a water leak. Most leaks are hidden, behind walls, under concrete slabs, and even under the lawn.

Water leaks can be pretty costly!

Water leaks can be sneaky, it can be like finding a needle in a haystack. That’s why knowing a few things about water pipes, water sounds and detecting water leaks is so important.

Check your water meter is a good place to start. Turn off all appliances using water both inside and outside your home. Locate the outside water meter and write down the number. Notice the meter’s flow indicator gauge, the small red or black dial, if it’s still registering it indicates a water leak. After about an hour with all water sources turned off, go back and check the meter, if the number is different you definitely have a water leak.
